Just before Easter, we spent a delightful afternoon in Collierville, TN, which is a bedroom community outside of Memphis. It was the site of a small Civil-War skirmish, and many Confederate soldiers are buried at a nearby cemetery. Collierville is a popular, growing, modern community, but fortunately the city leaders had the foresight to maintain the charming, historic Town Square area, complete with its log cabin. It easily could have been a set for an old Jimmy Stewart movie, or even a current Tom Hanks film. It's an "Everyman" kind of town....that is its charm.

It was one of those spontaneous/spur-of-the-moment decisions ("hey, let's go here..."), which often end up being the most fun. The day was clear, bright and sunny, the azaleas were blooming; it was one of those movie-set-perfect days that looked like Easter. There was even an Easter Bunny walking around the Town Square, greeting children and adults alike...and he looked exactly like the Bunny in the final scene of Steel Magnolias.
We decided to first have lunch at "The Silver Caboose", a lovely little restaurant that is only
open for lunch...and packed during that entire time period. I had "Fancy Pants Chicken Salad", which was a hearty chicken salad with large pieces of breast meat, apples, raisins, grapes, and nuts. It was so good, and was accompanied by fruit and a warm blueberry muffin fresh from the oven. My son and his Daddy had a "guy's lunch" (thank goodness they had a guy's lunch...DS was such a good sport to go along with this shopping day) of meatloaf and vegetables, and fresh cornbread. For dessert, my son chose creme brulee, which was heavenly. I didn't choose a dessert---which was a mistake! I was soon wishing I had my own creme brulee, which was probably one of the best we've had. It was made in a flatter, wider ramekin rather than the traditional custard cup, which made for more of that yummy "crunch" on top! So good! To complete our fun lunch, there were models from a ladies' and children's store down the square, modeling Easter fashions. It reminded me of department store luncheons years ago. My son (who's almost 16, 6'4" and a big guy---and all guy) graciously smiled and told the models how nice they looked. For some reason I found myself getting tickled at that...at least he's prepared for the occasional "ladies' lunch" or outings with daughters that might come his way after he's married someday.

After eating, we enjoyed seeing the old log cabin (complete with a matching birdhouse and a bird who seemed very happy with his adorable home) , and
browsing the many gift shops and antique stores along the square. I found a pretty embossed metal (bronze-looking) door pocket, and some green hydrangeas to go inside the pocket to bring home as my treat (and lots of other things, particularly bunnies, to add to my Wish List!). This store to the right (white and black exterior) was once a service/gas station, and is filled with lovely antiques, silver, porcelain and linens. Store owners didn't seem too thrilled about photos inside their shops (understandably), but I tried to take pics of some of the fun displays and areas of the square to share with you.It was a really nice day---almost perfect in every way. It
would only have been more fun had you been there, also!

Hallo and thank you againg for lovely comments! Yes, i had a nice weekend, but i am still a little bit confused about what happend to my sister and i feel sad thinking about it. But still i am doing just fine. We got visitors from my boyfriends brother, his wife, son and dog. So it was full of exitement, laughter and fun though. A nice break from all the sadness.
And i see you had a great time too! It looks lovely in Collierville!Nice and cozy, and peacful. So you found some treasures i read. Could you show it later? Well, enjoy rest of the week, wave from me here in Holland :)
Andrea...Spur of the moment trips are the best. I love exploring these small towns! It always makes me feel good, to see folks take pride in their town.
I enjoyed all the photos. Your lunch sounds wonderful! Now I'd like to see that door pocket!:-)

That was fun! It's funny how I now love quaint little towns like this that didn't interest me the tiniest bit for years. We are now searching out any close by for a day trip, so we can check out the little antique and junk stores.
Thank you for another delightful visit!
I'm so glad that you all enjoyed the visit...it really is a fun, laid-back place. Donna, I was always the same way. Years ago, my mother would want to visit these places and I had trouble getting enthused...now I seek them out. The Silver Caboose was my parents' find...they love that place and go all the time.
I'm sorry I didn't include a picture of the pocket. I am still shopping for a new camera, and hoping to buy one this weekend. My older son has mine with him at Trump Golf in FL--but I'll share the pics he's taking there soon. That course is gorgeous, and I told him he owes me pictures! We used a disposable camera in Collierville, and I forgot to save a last photo for the door pocket. As soon as I have a new camera, I will definitely take one!
What a wonderful trip to share with everyone! I stumbled upon your blog and simply adore it. Thank you for sharing such beautiful things.
I really enjoyed reading about this trip Andrea - you made it very interesting and I almost feel I went with you! The pics were great for a disposable.
Although I travel long distance quite often, I must admit I really enjoy day and weekend trips very much - I'm really such a homebody and miss it so much when away for weeks at a time. I'm off to Asheville for a weekend soon -hope to have some pics and stories for you - love that town!
Have you found the new (May)issue of Romantic Homes yet? I'm anxious to see it and read Robin's article, but haven't found it on the racks yet. I must get a sub. to it as it's definitely improved.
That sounded like my kind of day. I am having so much fun "visiting" all of these different places with my blog friends. I need to start a book of places to visit some day. Thanks for sharing and thanks for stopping by my blog today!
Andrea, just had to stop by again. Where has your lovely face gone? I aways enjoyed seeing you smiling from your left side bar - the urn is great but you were sweeter!
Come back to us!!!!!!!
Hugs, Mary.
It sounds like you had an amazing Easter! I absolutely love Tennessee, and find their restaurants/boutiques to be the best I've ever visited.
Your photos are beautiful, and capture the small-town feel of your trip. Thanks for taking all of us along!
It looks like you had a wonderful family day. I've drug my guys on days like that before ;-) When you mentioned luncheon counters that brought back such a flood of memories for me, Andrea! Creme Brulee with lots of crusty topping~my mouth is now watering!
Warmly,
Lallee
Andrea- You are making me homesick! I lived in the Memphis area for 15 years and moved away 6 years ago. I love Collierville and your pictures really do it justice!
By the way, you mentioned on Kim's blog (Vintage Pretties) that you know the person who has the family room she posted on inspiration Friday and I'm wondering who it is and where I can see more. Is it someone from GI? I don't recall seeing that room before but it's a beauty!

It looks like you had a wonderful day Andrea, and that antique shop looks like it would have been very fun. Thank you for sharing such a lovely town. It's great to see other parts of the country and see what's going on there :o)
